會 議 名 稱 XII IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT2012)

會 議 時 間 2012/07/4~6 會 議 地 點 Rome, Italy 報告內容:

一、 參加會議經過

ICALT 2012 is an annual international conference on Advanced Learning Technologies and Technology-enhanced Learning organized by IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Technical Committee on Learning Technology.

During the conference I attended all speeches of invited keynote speakers. Adrian Cheok (Director of the Mixed Reality Lab, National University of Singapore - Keio University Graduate School of Media Design) presented his research regarding Multi Modal Sensory Human Communication in the Internet Society. Harold Jarche (Chairman of Internet Time Alliance) discussed Principles for Collaborative Work. Liina-Maria Munari (Project Officer ‘Cultural Heritage and Technology Enhanced Learning’, DG Information Society and Media) introduced the current situation with ICT and Learning in Europe from the EC Perspective. Ton de Jong (Faculty of Behaviorial Sciences, University of Twente) introduced the progress of his study on Engaging Learners in Complex Learning Experiences with Technology. I also attended the following sessions during the conference:

- Session 1e Fighting against Babele: Languages chaired by Dr. Vincent Tam; - Session 2d All about Methodologies chaired by Dr. Paloma Diaz;

- Session 3a Recommendation ... and Emotion chaired by Dr. J. Michael Spector;

- Session 4e Environments: Evaluation and Quality chaired by Dr. Ming-Puu Chen;

- Session 5d Focus on Languages chaired by Dr. Nian-Shing Chen; - Session 7b Content ... and Mobile World chaired by Dr. Marcus Specht; - Session 8d Physicality chaired by Dr. Chin-Chung Tsai;

During the session 4e Environments: Evaluation and Quality on July 5th, from 10: 30 to 13:00 I presented my paper The Study of Self-Assessment with Prompts, Learning Journal, and Referencing through Sharing for Regulation of Cognition and Their Effect on Web-Based Programming Learning. I was given 20 minutes to present the study reported in my paper. After the presentation some participants commented and asked several questions regarding the paper. For example, how did we evaluate the content of self-assessment with prompts and learning journal? Why did not we include the control group in our reported study? Besides, there were some other presentations during the session 4e Environments: Evaluation and Quality. For example, Yin-Leng Theng and Joanna Sin introduced the study about Evaluating Usability and Efficaciousness of E-Learning Systems: A Quantitative Model-Driven Approach. Anastasios Karakostas, Luis P. Prieto, and Yannis Dimitriadis presented their research on Opportunities and Challenges for Adaptive Collaborative Support in Distributed Learning Environments: Evaluating the GLUE! Suite of Tools. Antonis Natsis, Ioannis Vrellis, Nikiforos M. Papachristos, and Tassos A. Mikropoulos discussed about their research on Technological Factors, User Characteristics and Didactic Strategies in Educational Virtual Environments. Rosário Cação and Carlos Lucas de Freitas presented the study of Modeling Critical Factors of Quality in e-Learning: A Structrual Equations Model Test. Finally, Ghada M. Alnifie introduced the study on Constructing the Relationship between Individual Differences of Faculty Members and the Continuance Intension of Using Learning Management Systems.

二、 與會心得

I got very useful experience during the conference and thank National Science Council for providing financial support. I could meet many famous scholars in the field of advanced learning technologies from all around the world (e.g. Dr. Kinshuk, Athabasca University in Canada, Dr. Michael Spector, University of North Texas in USA, Dr. Werner Winiwarter, University of Vienne in Austria, and etc.), get acquainted with them, discuss mine and their current research, and exchange ideas. I could also attend keynote speeches to learn about the current trends and other related research projects in the field of advanced learning technologies. Besides, during my presentation I could get feedback on my research from the conference participants. 三、 考察參觀活動(無是項活動者省略)

As number of international researchers in Taiwan is growing and international researchers apply for funding from NSC to attend international conferences outside of Taiwan I would suggest to make the information, application procedure, and reporting about conference participation available in English. It will attract more foreign scholars in Taiwan apply for NSC funding.
