1. think/consider/find + it + Adj./N+ (for sb.) + to VR
○1 本句型為不完全及物動詞 S + consider/find/think + O + OC 的延伸。(見下方 Review 補充)
○2 在本句型中,it 為虛受詞,取代後面由不定詞 to V 所形成的真受詞。
○3 it 之後的形容詞或名詞為受詞補語,用以補充說明受詞。
○4 虛受詞除了可代替不定詞外,還可以指稱 that 所引導的名詞子句。(例 4)
例 1: I don’t think it possible to finish the work by the end of this week. 例 2: My mom finally found it important to learn computer skills.
例 3: The teacher considers it a waste of time to play online games.
例 4: Our boss thinks it necessary that every employee attend the meeting on time.
Review: find/think/consider + O + OC
不完全及物動詞(Incomplete Transitive Verbs)是指除了需要受詞外,還需要補語才能表示完整意 思的動詞。該句型為 S + V + O + OC,而 find/think/consider + O + OC 就是其中一例,通常接 形容詞或名詞為受詞補語。
例 5: The old lady left the windows open to let some fresh air in. (除了需受詞 the windows 外,還需補語 open,語意才完整。) 例 6: The students consider Carolyn a gentle and caring teacher.
2. seem /appear 似乎
It seems/seemed that S + V → S seem/seemed to V/have p.p.
○1 此句型用以表示「不是很精準的推論」。中文譯為「似乎」,類似的用法還有 appear。
○2 若要推論「已發生或過去的事」,則用 seem + to have p.p.,表示該完成式動作或狀態比
seem 還要早發生。
例 1: It seems/appears that John has no courage to ask the girl out. → John seems/appears to have no courage to ask the girl out. 例 2: It seems that Mary forgot about the meeting.
→ Mary seems to have forgotten about the meeting. 例 3: It seemed that the professor mistook me for someone
→ The professor seemed to have mistaken me for someone.
seem 的否定有兩種方式:○1 在 seem 前加上助動詞+not ○2 在 seem 後加 not + to V
例 4: They can’t seem to concentrate.
→ They seem not to be able to concentrate. 例 5: It seemed that he hadn’t changed.
→ He did not seem to have changed. → He seemed not to have changed.
