29/06/2010 HKUST Signs MOU with Kuwaiti Ministry of Higher Education The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Higher Education in Kuwait, to strengthen the relationship between both parties in education and scientific research.

The MOU was signed between HKUST President Tony F Chan and Director of Kuwait Cultural Office Dr Ahmad Alathari. Also present at the signing ceremony was His Excellency Bader Al-Tunaib, Consul General, Consulate General of the State of Kuwait.

Under the MOU, both parties will encourage the exchange of scholarships in both technical and professional education. Both parties will also encourage mutual visits of higher education officials, academics and researchers, as well as the interflow of delegations of university students to take part in educational, cultural and sports activities in both countries.

President Chan said, "The establishment of a formal relationship with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Higher Education is a significant step in HKUST's outreach to the Arab world, particularly in the field of scientific education and research. We look forward to a mutually beneficial and growing relationship with the educational authorities and institutions in Kuwait in the years to come."
