課程學習目標

This course is designed to help you strengthen essentials of English speaking ability and develop real-life communicative skills. Focusing on practical oral skills, the course is to provide you the target language in personalized, learner-centered, and interactive situations, and to improve your competence and performance in using English confidently and creatively. Through the course activity, you will be exposed to a number of interesting topics from the textbook, and you will practice English through various communicative activities such as participating in discussion, doing one act plays, delivering individual speeches, and presenting midterm group report and final team project in the final.

Please come to discuss with me if you have any questions or problems. I am available after class, on weekly office hour online via Google Handout, or by appointment and will make every effort to help you achieve your language goals.

學習規範

1. Students are required to attend class regularly and to participate in class meeting positively.

2. Students are required to prepare every class assigned topics, team discussion, and project presentation; failure to do so will positively affect your final grade. You are responsible for the presence on the assigned dates for reports and exams. Late assignments will not be accepted and will receive no grades.

3. Attendance: If students who make 3 consecutive absences without concrete evidence in class week before and after the midterm, he or she will be suspended from attending midterm or final examination.

4. Absence resulted from Emergencies, such as medical or family emergencies, can be discussed, with concrete evidence provided. (In class week) Other excuses won’t be accepted. If you should be absent on the day when a report or exam is given, you should take the full responsibility for getting no grade (0%) for that quiz.

5. If you have to be absent, it is your RESPONSIBILITY TO TALK or EMAIL TO THE TEACHER at least one day before class begins!

6. For the classroom etiquette, please listen to and respect for the views of your classmates. Besides, please turn off all the electronic machines during the class period; any noises from those will interrupt the class procedure and this is impolite to your class!

7. Use English only in the class! Remember this – PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! The best way to improve your English speaking proficiency is to keep practicing some more.

Don’t worry about making mistakes and don’t forget that you will never learn to communicate effectively if you keep your mouth closed! Just be an active learner! I hope you try your best to follow the program and enjoy your English learning as a discovery process of communication!
