使用真實攝影圖片為實驗材料的實驗一發現,無論是違反或是符合 Arnheim 深度平衡理論的攝影作品,人們皆能夠感受到視覺平衡與美感,且無論是何種構
總結以上研究發現,就僅有兩個主體的畫面而言,Arnheim 的深度平衡理論 並不完整。原本 Arnheim (1974)認為距離感會讓物體增加視覺重量,因此在遠方 的物體其畫面大小一定要小於前方的物體。雖然分析參與者的主觀平衡評分可以

發現近小遠大的構圖是最具視覺平衡的構圖,不僅證實 Arnheim (1974)深度 平衡理論不完整,也證實 Arnheim (1974)的尺寸視覺平衡理論並不完全正確。
Arnheim (1974)認為元素在畫面中的尺寸愈大,視覺重量愈重,因此畫面尺寸大 的元素難以與畫面尺寸小的元素形成視覺平衡。而原先 Arnheim (1974)認為近大 遠小的畫面可以達到視覺平衡,是因遠方物體雖然畫面尺寸小,但是深度距離增 加了遠方物體的視覺重量,因此遠方畫面尺寸小的物體才能跟近處畫面尺寸大的 物體形成視覺平衡。但本研究結果發現遠處畫面尺寸大的物體,卻仍然可以與近 處畫面尺寸小的物體形成平衡,完全不符合 Arnheim (1974)視覺平衡的相關論述。
此發現可以給予視覺藝術創作者在進行藝術創作時,畫面構圖選擇的參考。 物體在畫面中適合的面積大小的重要因素(Bertamini et al., 2011; Konkle & Oliva, 2011; Linsen et al., 2011)。
物體實際尺寸的背景知識,也影響著何時視覺平衡符合 Arnheim 深度平衡理 論(近大遠小的畫面會平衡),何時視覺平衡違反 Arnheim 深度平衡理論(近小

於近處物體的畫面大小。因此,當物體有實際尺寸的背景知識時,違反 Arnheim 深度平衡理論的構圖才有可能對其感受到視覺平衡,如果物體沒有實際尺寸的背‧
編排下,幫助此主體傳達整個畫面的意涵,這樣才是個好的構圖(Obrador, Schmidt-Hackenberg, & Oliver, 2010; 梅常青, 2004)。例如:攝影界常利用焦距的 調整,把焦距對焦在畫面中的主體上,使得主體以外的物體模糊,進而將主體從 畫面中凸顯出來(Kodak, 1987);甚至也有學者提出演算法,幫助主體從圖片中凸 顯出來(Banerjee & Evans, 2007)。最後,此研究也意外發現,當兩個物體在畫面面積皆很小的時候,人們反而 也能感受到些微平衡與美感,就算畫面中有物體的畫面面積與實際尺寸的比例不 相符,或是畫面中的物體沒有實際尺寸的背景知識,皆可穩定發現此現象。造成 此現象的可能原因,如現代人類學之父 Lévi-Strauss (1966) 所說:「所有的迷你 小物皆存在著一種內隱式的美感 (All miniatures seem to have an intrinsic aesthetic quality)」。自古人們就喜歡用雕塑、繪畫等方式將真實物體縮小。這些迷你物不 僅是藝術品,有些更是人們對於宗教信仰的寄託。例如:古埃及的辟邪物(Egyptian amulets)(見圖 28)與墨西哥古文明 Aztec 的玉像。這些充滿藝術之美的迷你小 物,若放在一起會發現這些雕塑尺寸之間,與所象徵的真實人物的實際尺寸比例 並不相符。但是由於這些藝術品皆很小,本身就傳達出了一種藝術美感。Mack (2007)也研究了從古至今各種迷你物的藝術,發現小物的確會傳達出一種精美且 深奧的美感。

本研究為近代心理學研究中,首篇嘗試系統性地研究不同物體在具有深度線 索的畫面中,其達成視覺平衡的心理歷程。不過,本研究仍然有些研究限制。除 了如前面所述,本研究實驗二與實驗三的實驗圖片過於單調,無法複製實驗一眼 睛凝視點的區域標準化分數分析結果外,本研究的結果也僅限於兩個物體的畫面,
當畫面中的主體數量大於二時,其物體之間在具有距離線索的畫面下,要如何構 圖才能達成視覺平衡與美感,還有待進一步研究。另外,本研究實驗二與實驗三 的實驗圖片,兩個物體之間皆是一樣的深度距離,在只有一種固定的深度距離下,
無法量化深度距離與視覺重量之間的關係,例如:以實驗三來說,在固定近處幾 何體的大小下,遠處幾何體在不同深度距離下要多大才能達到最佳的視覺平衡與 美感,其物體畫面大小、深度距離、與視覺平衡之間是否有量化關係,並能寫成 一個方程式去描述,都有待進一步研究。
因此,未來研究者可以自行製作實驗圖片,並在固定一個物體的畫面大小下,
調整不同深度距離並變化另一個物體的畫面大小,以此探討深度距離與畫面大小 之間如何達成視覺平衡與美感,設法找出其量化關係。甚至,未來研究者也可以 製作具深度線索下多於兩個主體的實驗圖片,設法研究出當畫面中物體數量大於 二時,其物體之間達成視覺平衡的心理歷程。這些都是未來值得再進一步探討的

總結來說,Armheim 的深度平衡理論不完全正確,物體在有深度線索下的畫 面中要取得視覺平衡,除了距離感造就的視覺重量感受外,物體的實際尺寸也會 影響視覺平衡,物體之間的畫面大小要與真實物體的比例相符。因此,深度距離 的確會給予物體視覺重量,然而物體實際尺寸的背景知識對於視覺重量有更大的 權重。而在所有的構圖組合當中,又穩定發現物體近小遠大的畫面,是人們最容 易感受到視覺平衡的構圖,也最能幫助作品傳達美感給予觀賞者,此研究結果在 過去研究文獻皆尚未發現。此發現不僅能在學術上給予心理學及相關領域研究者 去做更進一步探討,研究其生成原因及背後心理機制,也能給予視覺藝術創作者 一些實際應用的參考。
