VISITOR ARRIVALS

In light of the Summer holidays, visitor arrivals reached an all-time record of 1,922,243 in August 2006, up 11.0% year-on-year. Visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong grew 8.4% and 13.1% respectively but those from Taiwan, China decreased 3.3%. In addition, same-day visitors accounted for 50.7% of the total arrivals, at 974,257.

In August, 51.6% of the visitor arrivals from Mainland China travelled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, at 526,279.

In the first eight months of 2006, visitor arrivals reached 14,146,971, up 14.8% over the same period of last year. Same-day visitors, at 7,311,067, made up 51.7% of the total.

Compared with the same period of last year, visitor arrivals by sea rose 13.7% to 5,020,844 in the first eight months of 2006, with 4,772,289 arriving at the Outer Harbour. Cumulative arrivals through the Border Gate soared to 8,324,699, up 25.5%. Arrivals by air totalled 801,428 (+14.8%), with 794,968 arrived at the Macao International Airport (+15.2%).
