VISITOR ARRIVALS

The total number of visitor arrivals in September was 1,313,261, a year-on-year increase of 31.2%. Visitors came mainly from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Same-day visitors accounted for 50.9% of the total arrivals, at 667,867.

In the first nine months of 2004, visitor arrivals totalled at 12,190,113, up 45.3% over the same period of last year. This figure surpassed the annual total of 2003. There were 2,489,258 Mainland China visitors who travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme, which accounted for 20.4% of the total arrivals. Same-day visitors, at 6,069,518, made up 49.8% of the total.

Compared with the same period of last year, in the first nine months of 2004, visitor arrivals by sea went up 24.6% to 4,674,275, with 4,577,542 arriving at the Outer Harbour (+24.2%). Arrivals by land soared to 6,907,984, up 65.3%, with 6,428,996 arriving through the Border Gate (+60.3%) and 478,988 through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air were 607,854, up 32.4%,

among which 595,170 arrived at the Macao International Airport (+32.3%).
