VISITOR ARRIVALS
In August 2001, the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 1,055,529 , the highest monthly figure recorded in official statistics, equivalent to an increase of 17.2% over August 2000. Visitors came mainly from Hong Kong (51.2%), Mainland China (30.8%), Taiwan (12.6%) and Japan (1.3%). Same-day visitors shared 41.4% of the total arrivals, with 437,004.
From January to August 2001, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 6,915,945, up 13.1% over the same period of 2000, while 3,015,222 were same-day visitors (43.6% of the total).
Compared with the first eight months of 2000, the cumulative number of arrivals by sea was similar to the same period of 2000, with 3,569,126. Among these visitors, 3,471,069 arrived at the Outer Harbour, which represented a 3.9% growth.
Arrivals by land totalled at 2,765,510, an increase of 39.0%; 2,684,074 arrived through the Border Gate and 81,436 visitors arrived through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air were 581,309 (+4.4%); with 571,667 arrivals (+5.9%) at the Macao International Airport.
