VISITOR ARRIVALS
In September 2002, the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 884,498, equivalent to an increase of 13.0% over September 2001. Visitors came mainly from Hong Kong (42.1%), Mainland China (38.2%) and Taiwan (14.2%). Same-day visitors accounted for 46.3% of the total arrivals, at 409,809.
In the first nine months of 2002, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 8,490,145, up 10.3% over the same period of 2001. Furthermore, same-day visitors reached 3,604,426, which shared 42.5% of the total visitor arrivals.
Compared with the first nine months of 2001, the cumulative number of visitors arrived by sea rose 8.5%, to 4,297,420.
Among these visitors, 4,205,115 arrived at the Outer Harbour, a growth of 9.1%. Arrivals by land totalled at 3,511,268, an increase of 13.6%; 3,381,505 arrived through the Border Gate and 129,763 through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air reached 681,457 (+5.6%); with 672,293 arrivals (+5.9%) at the Macao International Airport.
