VISITOR ARRIVALS
In December 2002, the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 1,066,425, equivalent to an increase of 18.3% over December 2001. Visitors came mainly from Mainland China (44.0%), Hong Kong (39.2%) and Taiwan (10.6%). Same-day visitors accounted for 42.6% of the total arrivals, at 454,531.
In the year 2002, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 11,530,841, surpassed the record-breaking number of 10,278,973 in 2001, up 12.2% on the year. Furthermore, same-day visitors reached 4,965,682, which shared 43.1% of the total visitor arrivals.
Compared with the year 2001, the cumulative number of visitors arrived by sea rose 8.2%, to 5,700,711. Among these visitors, 5,576,583 arrived at the Outer Harbour, a growth of 8.8%. Arrivals by land totalled at 4,924,743, an increase of 18.7%; 4,760,292 arrived through the Border Gate and 164,451 through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air reached 905,387 (+5.1%); with 892,481 arrivals (+5.2%) at the Macao International Airport.
