HKUST Library Hosts
International Seminar on Chinese
Information Processing in
Libraries
An international seminar will be held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 22-23 January, as the HKUST
Library¹s fourth Colloquium on Information Science. This intensive seminar will bring together researchers, vendors and users from different backgrounds to find solutions to the Chinese automation issues facing libraries today. The Library hopes the seminar will lead to specific action and the implementation of these solutions for the benefit of all.
For years libraries with collections of Chinese materials have faced unique challenges in providing information access. Despite rapid advances in information science and increasing technology convergence, little progress has been made on fundamental issues affecting Chinese information processing.
Prof Ching-Chun Hsieh from Academia Sinica, Taiwan, will be the keynote speaker. Other panelists will be researchers, librarians and hardware and software vendors from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States.
Details of the seminar are as follows:
Date: Thursday and Friday, 22 and 23 January 1998 Time: 8:45am - 5pm
Venue: Lee Wing Tat Lecture Theatre, HKUST, Clearwater Bay, Kowloon
