VISITOR ARRIVALS

The total number of visitor arrivals in June 2004 was 1,300,765, a remarkable year-on-year increase of 59.5% brought by the benefit from the Individual Visit Scheme. Visitors came mainly from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Same-day visitors accounted for 50.7% of the total arrivals, at 659,319.

∆% Year-on-year percentage change

In the first half of 2004, visitor arrivals totalled at 7,734,886, up 52.6% over the same period of last year. There were 1,439,236 Chinese visitors who travelled under the Individual Visit Scheme, which accounted for 18.6% of the total arrivals. Same-day visitors, at 3,871,811, made up 50.1% of the total arrivals.

Compared with the same period of last year, in the first half of 2004, visitor arrivals by sea went up 31.2% to 2,961,646, with 2,897,171 arriving at the Outer Harbour (+31.2%). Arrivals by land soared to 4,400,425, up 72.0%, with 4,126,030 arriving through the Border Gate (+67.6%), and 274,395 through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air were 372,815, up 47.4%, among which 364,567 arrived at the Macao International Airport (+47.2%).
