E-book readers are changing the way people read. The main selling point for these (11) devices, which are the size of a paperback book, is that they make books easy to access and carry. These devices can store hundreds of books in memory and, with text-to-speech features, can even read the texts. The market for e-books and e-book readers keeps (12) as a lot of companies enter it. Online and traditional booksellers have been the first to market e-book readers to the public, but computer companies, especially the ones already involved in online music and notepad computer technology, will also enter the market.
The problem for consumers, (13), is which device to choose.
Incompatibility is the norm. E-books can be read only on the devices they were intended (14). Furthermore, use is restricted by the same kind of systems that restrict the copying of music and videos. Therefore, book buyers are often (15) to lend books to other readers, as they can with a real book. Few accommodations have been made to fit the other way Americans read: by borrowing books from libraries. What is a buyer to do?

In the past decade, major progress has been made towards (17) access to education at all levels and increasing enrollment rates in schools particularly for women and girls. Basic literacy skills have improved greatly, (18) bolder efforts are needed to make even greater progress towards achieving universal education goals. (19), the world has achieved equality in primary education between girls and boys, but (20) countries have achieved that target at all levels of education. In 1894, a horrible disease hit Rutland County in the U.S. state of Vermont. Called polio, it seriously injured each victim’s nervous system. Overall, the disease struck 150 people. Eighteen of them were deadly.
In the first half of the twentieth century, polio became a widely-feared disease in the U.S. One of its most well-known victims was Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was infected with the disease in 1921 when he was at the age of 39. Because of polio, he was unable to walk without support. In spite of the disability, years later, he was elected president of the U.S.
In the early 1950s, a researcher, Jonas Salk in the end developed a potential vaccine for polio. After the successful test on monkeys, he gave it to two groups of children and his family. In 1953, he delivered a radio speech in which he declared the success of the human tests.
On April 26, 1954, a government-supported polio vaccination program started. Surprisingly, in just two months, about 1.8 million Americans received Jonas Salk’s vaccine. A year later, the government indicated that the polio vaccine had shown to be effective in preventing the spread of this particular disease.
Jonas Salk’s vaccine was injected with a needle. In the early 1960s, another researcher, Albert Sabin invented an oral polio vaccine.
Nowadays, both the injected polio vaccine (IPV) and oral polio vaccine (OPV) are used worldwide. In many countries, OPV is preferred. It is not only inexpensive but also convenient as it is taken orally.
