VISITOR ARRIVALS

In December 2000, the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 809,425, equivalent to an increase of 26.4%

over December 1999. Visitors came mainly from Hong Kong (53.7%), Mainland China (25.4%) and Taiwan (13.6%).

In the year of 2000, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 9,162,212, up 23.1% over the same period of 1999. In addition, this figure exceeds the record-breaking number of 8,151,055 arrivals peaked at 1996 with an increase of 12.4%.

Compared with the year of 1999, the cumulative number of arrivals by sea rose 17.0%, with 5,190,517. A mong these visitors, 4,909,897 arrived at the Outer Harbour, which represented a 14.6% growth. Arrivals by land totalled at 3,137,492, an increase of 34.4%, 3,090,485 arrived through the Border Gate and 47,007 visitors arrived through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air went up 24.0%, with 834,203, meanwhile, arrivals at the Macao International Airport increased by 26.8%, with 812,076.
