TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS STATISTICS

New registration of motor vehicles in August decreased by 17.3% year-on-year, with heavy motorcycles dropping by 37.6% whereas light automobiles surging by 38.9%. In the first eight months of 2018, new registration of motor vehicles recorded a decrease of 2.5% year-on-year. Licensed motor vehicles at end-August totalled 238,545, down by 1.7% year-on-year, as light motorcycles and light automobiles went down by 11.2% and 1.7% respectively.

Number of traffic accidents fell by 4.9% year-on-year in August, and number of injuries totalled 380. A total of 2,907 traffic casualties were recorded in the first eight months.

Commercial flight movements in August rose by 14.2% year-on-year; flight movements to and from Mainland China and Thailand grew by 24.1% and 28.8%

respectively, while movements to and from the Republic of Korea dropped by 24.7%. Commercial flight movements in the first eight months increased by 13.2% year-on-year.

Internet subscribers went up by 8.1% year-on-year in August, and the duration of internet usage edged up by 0.5%. In the first eight months of 2018, the cumulative duration of internet usage amounted to 822 million hours, up marginally by 0.4% year-on-year.
