Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP776 million and MOP5.10 billion in June, down by 14.3% and 21.6% respectively year-on-year.
Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP4.33 billion.
In the first half year of 2020, merchandise export fell by 19.5% year-on-year, of which re-exports declined by 22.2% but domestic exports rose by 3.5%;
meanwhile, merchandise import decreased by 29.2%. External merchandise trade dropped by 27.9% year-on-year to MOP34.82 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP24.50 billion, a decrease of MOP11.01 billion from MOP35.51 billion a year earlier.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Hong Kong (MOP3.32 billion) decreased by 22.4% year-on-year in the first half year of 2020, while exports to mainland China (MOP979 million) and the USA (MOP213 million) expanded by 25.1% and 135.7% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP10.86 billion), the EU (MOP7.78 billion) and Japan (MOP2.35 billion) dropped by 22.4%, 31.9% and 16.3% respectively year-on-year.

In the second quarter of 2020, merchandise export and import totalled MOP2.10 billion and MOP13.23 billion, down by 23.9% and 35.5% respectively year-on-year, resulting in a trade deficit of MOP11.12 billion.
