艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書充滿了許多幽默又獨具巧思的個人特色，在 前面幾章解構並分析了這些研究文本後，在最後的這一章節，筆者整理了三個方 向來整體性地詮釋這些作品在美學上所呈現的意涵。
壹、穿梭於虛構與真實之間
艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書不論是外在形式設計（書中書、在書頁間鑿 洞或不規則的書頁、各式各樣附加訊息的方式……）或內容風格表現（圖、文與 情節所使用的各種策略）都可以看到作者竭盡全力地想要傳達出一種「擬真」的 效果，艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特希望她的讀者彷彿真的可以看到貓鼬旅行的過程、聽到 大噴火龍為小噴火龍說書的聲音、觸摸到兔子鑽過的洞穴、聞到小老鼠所遺留的 痕跡、感受到即將兔入狼口的驚懼……，她希望她的圖畫書可以讓我們體驗到真 實的感受，而不只是閱讀一個虛構的故事而已。因此，艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的各種 嘗試與設計，搭配上讀者無限的想像力，總是可以讓她書中的角色們躍然紙上，
我們彷彿可以真的看到這些小動物們穿梭其中，而只要我們想要，就可以隨時加 入他們成為故事的一份子，幫創作過程加料，甚至為故事編寫不同的結局。
然而，弔詭的是，艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特如此努力地做了各種逼真的效果後，
卻又會自行現聲打破一切幻象，告訴讀者這不過是個虛構的故事；讓讀者在進入 並相信如真的動物世界的同時，也看穿作者的手法 ── 這些手寫字體、遺留下 來的痕跡或被燒穿的洞，根本不可能是兔子、小老鼠或小噴火龍所為，它們全是 作者的創作。
筆者認為，艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的這些「極力的擬真後卻又自行拆穿」的後設 策略，也許會讓某些讀者感到一頭霧水，卻也更可能讓許多讀者感受到自由穿梭

在虛構與真實間的快樂。我們可以想像書中角色們在書頁間自由的穿越，我們更 可以任意穿梭在虛構的故事與真實的世界之間。閱讀艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖 畫書總是可以感受到極大的自由與想像力奔馳的快樂。
貳、圖畫書即生活
艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特平時就有收集各式紙片、雜物的習慣，她總會適時地將這 些日常生活中出現的東西拼貼在她的圖畫書中以協助述說故事。另外，她在創作 圖畫書的圖像與文字，以及各式附加訊息的文件手冊時，不傾向光亮、整潔、無 垢的畫面，反而會依照故事情節與主角特性，很真實地呈現似乎不怎麼完美的畫 面。例如：小老鼠經過的地方一定會有很多啃嚙的痕跡，甚至會有沾到體液或排 泄物那種髒髒舊舊臭臭的感覺；兔子的食譜上很可能會沾到些許紅蘿蔔泥；噴火 龍的怒火把書頁燒穿了，所以一部份的文字或圖像消失也是合情合理；拼貼現成 物到圖畫書上時，直接使用不透明膠帶、OK 繃或迴紋針，毫不隱藏創作的痕跡，
反而更能真實地表現筆記書所該有的樣子……。
艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書裡各種日常用品的拼貼，以及擬真卻不一定 乾淨完美的畫面在在隱含著一個重要的訊息：藝術並不高高在上，它並非要走進 美術館或畫廊才能欣賞，藝術其實一直就在我們的生活周遭、我們唾手可得的地 方，端看我們有沒有智慧的眼與敏銳的心去感受欣賞。
參、圖畫書作為藝術類型
艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書有的外觀看起來像一個郵件包裹，有的就像 一本可以掛在牆上的月曆，有的像是一個箱子，若沒有適當拿取，裡面的角色、
文字與圖像便會堆疊在一起，亂成一團。雖然圖畫書是由平面的紙張所構成，但 在閱讀艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書時，常常有如看到一個個各具特色的立體

空間，這是由「作者創作時的精心設計」以及「讀者閱讀時的想像力」二者相乘 的結果。在文字紙本書籍逐漸被電子書所取代的此時，這樣子的圖畫書反而因為 它在各類書籍中所獨具的「空間感」而被保存下來。它甚至脫離了文學作品的類 型，而向上提升到藝術類型的層次。
艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書提供給創作者、讀者與書中角色極大的自由，
它們是由簡單的媒材與日常的物品所構成，是貼近我們生活的且無法被取代的藝 術作品。幽默且自由，平凡卻唯一，就是筆者在艾蜜莉‧葛拉菲特的後設圖畫書 中所感受到的美學。

Q. Previous occupations
A. I haven’t really had any. After I left home (too young) I lived in a big green army bus for eight years. I uesd to busk in the street to earn some money, which was fun but cold. I also spent a few seasons failing to pick apples and potatoes.
Q. Favorite job
A. I think not picking potatoes was good. The potato farm was in a beautiful area, and I spent lots of time drawing whilst my poor partner crawled across potato fields. It also had the bonus of as many free potatoes as we could eat!
Q. High school and/or college
A. I went to school in my home town of Brighton. I hated Secondary school and when I left I swore I'd never go to college. It took me twelve years to change my mind.
