「工具、機器與環境改善輔具」與「休閒輔具」。輔具開發理念與原則，應以高齡 使用者為中心(user centered)，並結合醫護、健康照護與機械、材料、資訊、電機、
設計等領域，共同進行產品設計開發與推廣教育。以創新整合觀點，歸納下列幾項 重要發展趨勢：
1. 強化高齡使用者經驗(user experience)：福祉科技產品或服務應更重視高齡使 用者使用情境，並全面性思考「使用者對於障礙」的定義；好的福祉科技產 品設計應具有便利性與通用性。
2. 實現友善的智慧生活(smart living)：除了以科技打造由居家到公共空間的無障 礙安全便利環境，可藉由物聯網(The Internet of Things)概念，透過網路傳遞資 訊並分析大數據(Big Data)，達成食、衣、住、行、育、樂、醫、健、美全方 面的智慧生活。
3. 落實自我健康管理與健康促進：資通訊科技(Information and Communication Technology)的進步，加速了遠距健康照護(Telehealth)的實現，尤其在居家照 護領域將成為發展重點方向之ㄧ，鼓勵民眾重視自我健康管理並防範疾病發 生，提升自我健康意識。
4. 建構無所不在的高齡健康樂活圈：「社會參與」與「支持系統」能幫助高齡 者走出家庭、走進社會，參與休閒、進修學習或社會服務等活動，確保高齡 族群與社會的連結。透過雲端科技、手機智慧裝置與 APP，整合醫療照護與 銀髮產業，串聯社區據點，提供如高齡樂活照護站、銀髮樂活社團互聯、樂 活情報網等形態，打造全方位高齡健康樂活圈，進而型塑高齡友善的城市。
福祉科技的應用能使失能者或高齡者延續生命的健康，保有良好的社交關係與 環境互動關係。藉由跨專業領域的系統性整合，提供失能者、高齡者乃至一般民眾 更完善的創新健康照護服務網絡，無論是個人生活品質或產業發展都能得到全面性 提升。
