(24) Taiwan's Regional Blocs Shu Keng & Lu-huei Chen. Abstract This paper claims that economic interaction across the Taiwan Strait may contribute to the formation of "political blocs" (regions' affiliation with specific political parties) in Taiwan. We argue that northern Taiwan benefits most from cross-strait economic interactions and as a result favors a KMT PFP, alliance, especially since the latter supports deregulating trade with and investment in China. For a similar reason, southern Taiwan turns to DPP. In contrast with the north and south, Taiwan's central and eastern region tends to be more neutral in party preference, since they do not benefit as directly from transactions with the Mainland.
