Merchandise export amounted to MOP1.04 billion, up by 13.6% year-on-year; merchandise import decreased by 3.2% to MOP7.20 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP6.16 billion.

In the first seven months of 2019, merchandise export rose by 4.7% year-on-year, of which re-exports increased by 7.5% but domestic exports decreased by 14.1%; meanwhile, merchandise import declined by 2.2%. External merchandise trade dropped by 1.4% year-on-year to MOP56.93 billion.

Merchandise trade deficit reached MOP42.04 billion, a decrease of MOP1.45 billion compared with MOP43.49 billion a year earlier.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China declined by 21.7% year-on-year to MOP929 million in the first seven months of 2019, while exports to Hong Kong (MOP4.89 billion) and the USA (MOP112 million) rose by 10.4% and 31.7% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP16.49 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP3.32 billion) fell by 5.4% and 15.7% respectively year-on-year, whereas imports from the EU (MOP13.52 billion) increased by 6.5%.
