Merchandise export amounted to MOP952 million, down by 12.9% year-on-year; merchandise import increased by 4.7% to MOP6.96 billion.
Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP6.01 billion.
In the first four months of 2019, merchandise export rose by 12.9% year-on-year, of which re-exports increased by 17.6% but domestic exports decreased by 18.1%; meanwhile, merchandise import declined by 1.1%. External merchandise trade went up by 0.7% year-on-year to MOP33.25 billion.
Merchandise trade deficit widened further to MOP24.07 billion.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Mainland China declined by 20.0% year-on-year to MOP536 million in the first four months of 2019, while exports to Hong Kong (MOP3.19 billion) and the USA (MOP62 million) rose by 25.3% and 41.7% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP9.69 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP2.01 billion) fell by 3.4% and 13.4% respectively year-on-year, whereas imports from the EU (MOP7.71 billion) increased by 2.7%.
