Merchandise export amounted to MOP908 million, down by 15.5% year-on-year; merchandise import increased by 3.5% to MOP7.26 billion.

Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP6.35 billion.

In the first five months of 2019, merchandise export rose by 7.0% year-on-year, of which re-exports increased by 10.7% but domestic exports decreased by 17.3%; meanwhile, merchandise import declined by 0.4%. External merchandise trade went up by 0.5% year-on-year to MOP41.33 billion.

Merchandise trade deficit widened further to MOP30.33 billion.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China declined by 19.5% year-on-year to MOP665 million in the first five months of 2019, while exports to Hong Kong (MOP3.72 billion) and the USA (MOP80 million) rose by 14.3% and 47.5% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP11.95 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP2.51 billion) fell by 4.6% and 12.0% respectively year-on-year, whereas imports from the EU (MOP9.72 billion) increased by 5.5%.
