Survey coverage of the Gaming Industry for the fourth quarter of 2006 excluded junket promoters and junket associates.
Number of Paid Employees
At the end of the fourth quarter of 2006, there were 36 412 paid employees engaged in the Gaming Industry, which increased 39.4% and 21.4% respectively compared with the same quarter of 2005 and the second quarter of 2006. Analyzed by occupation, 22 669 were engaged in positions that are directly related to betting services, such as hard and soft count clerks, cage cashiers, pit bosses, casino floorpersons, dealers, betting service operators, etc., up 49.0% and 25.5% respectively over the same period of 2005 and the second quarter of 2006.
Meanwhile, 6 683 were engaged as services and sales workers, including casino and slot machine attendants/hosts, security and surveillance workers, etc., up 24.2% and 11.6% respectively compared with the same period of 2005 and the second quarter of 2006.

Number of Vacancies
At the end of December 2006, the Gaming Industry reported 5 631 vacant posts, down by 1.2%
compared with the end of June 2006. Amongst the vacancies, 68.6% (3 861) were related to positions such as hard and soft count clerks, cage cashiers, pit bosses, casino floorpersons, dealers, betting service operators, etc., while there were 1 008 vacancies (17.9%) for services and sales workers.

81.1% required senior secondary or higher education. Besides Cantonese, other preferred language skills were Mandarin (83.5%) and English (47.4%).

Earnings
bIn December 2006, average earnings for full-time employees in the Gaming Industry was MOP 13 978, up by 24.0% and 10.8% respectively over December 2005 and June 2006. The average for resident workers was MOP 12 874, while the average for non-resident workers was MOP 26 002.
Average earnings for those positions that are directly related to betting services, such as hard and soft count clerks, cage cashiers, pit bosses, casino floorpersons, dealers, betting service operators, etc.
was MOP 14 643, which rose by 26.2% and 11.5% respectively over December 2005 and June 2006.
The average earnings for services and sales workers was MOP 8 076, which increased by 21.1% and 9.8% respectively compared with December 2005 and June 2006.
