Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP1.13 billion and MOP8.66 billion, up by 10.6% and 8.3% respectively year-on-year. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP7.53 billion.

In the first eleven months of 2019, merchandise export rose by 4.9% year-on-year, of which re-exports increased by 6.1% but domestic exports decreased by 3.8%; meanwhile, merchandise import declined by 1.0%. External merchandise trade edged down by 0.3% year-on-year to MOP93.00 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP69.62 billion, a decrease of MOP1.35 billion from MOP70.97 billion a year earlier.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China declined by 22.1% year-on-year to MOP1.44 billion in the first eleven months of 2019, while exports to Hong Kong (MOP7.49 billion) and the USA (MOP249 million) rose by 7.7% and 108.0% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP27.97 billion) and Switzerland (MOP6.23 billion) fell by 3.2% and 0.9% respectively year-on-year, whereas imports from the EU (MOP22.31 billion) increased by 9.2%.
