Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP906 million and MOP6.66 billion, down by 14.3% and 7.3% respectively year-on-year. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP5.75 billion.

In the first half year of 2019, merchandise export rose by 3.3% year-on-year, of which re-exports increased by 6.2% but domestic exports decreased by 16.1%;

meanwhile, merchandise import declined by 1.7%. External merchandise trade dropped by 1.1% year-on-year to MOP48.82 billion. Merchandise trade deficit widened further to MOP36.02 billion.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China fell by 22.2% year-on-year to MOP783 million in the first half year of 2019, while exports to Hong Kong (MOP4.28 billion) and the USA (MOP91 million) rose by 9.3% and 40.0% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP14.06 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP2.91 billion) dropped by 5.8% and 12.8% respectively year-on-year, whereas imports from the EU (MOP11.53 billion) increased by 5.0%.

－ In the second quarter of 2019, merchandise export and import totalled MOP2.77 billion and MOP20.78 billion, down by 14.2% and 0.3% respectively year-on-year, resulting in a trade deficit of MOP18.02 billion.
