Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP1.19 billion and MOP15.10 billion in June, up by 62.2% and 199.6% respectively year-on-year.
Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP13.91 billion.
In the first half year of 2021, merchandise export rose by 34.8% year-on-year, with re-exports and domestic exports increasing by 35.4% and 31.0%
respectively; meanwhile, merchandise import soared by 151.9%. External merchandise trade surged by 134.9% year-on-year to MOP80.68 billion.
Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP67.26 billion, an increase of MOP42.88 billion from MOP24.39 billion a year earlier.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China (MOP964 million), Hong Kong (MOP4.76 billion) and the USA (MOP315 million) in the first half year of 2021 expanded by 20.7%, 42.8% and 47.9% respectively year-on-year. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP24.82 billion), the EU (MOP23.04 billion) and Switzerland (MOP6.62 billion) leapt by 130.4%, 197.5% and 349.8% respectively year-on-year.

In the second quarter of 2021, merchandise export and import totalled MOP3.24 billion and MOP44.36 billion, up by 64.4% and 239.5% respectively year-on-year; this resulted in a trade deficit of MOP41.12 billion.
