Merchandise export increased by 29.0% year-on-year to MOP1.42 billion in January, of which values of re-exports (MOP1.26 billion) and domestic exports (MOP169 million) expanded by 32.4% and 8.7% respectively. Merchandise import totalled MOP10.69 billion, up by 28.5% year-on-year.
External merchandise trade grew by 28.5% year-on-year to MOP12.12 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP9.27 billion, an increase of MOP2.05 billion from MOP7.22 billion a year earlier.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China (MOP151 million), Hong Kong (MOP1.09 billion) and the USA (MOP52 million) expanded by 59.1%, 57.1% and 3.9% respectively year-on-year. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP3.95 billion), the EU (MOP3.39 billion) and Switzerland (MOP879 million) grew by 46.0%, 28.8% and 44.6% respectively year-on-year.
