In the third quarter of 2021, merchandise export and import totalled MOP3.17 billion and MOP39.53 billion, up by 10.0% and 49.5% respectively year-on- year; this resulted in a trade deficit of MOP36.36 billion.

Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP981 million and MOP12.00 billion in September, up by 5.8% and 13.3% respectively year-on-year.

Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP11.02 billion.

From January to September 2021, merchandise export rose by 25.6% year-on-year, with domestic exports and re-exports increasing by 28.6% and 25.1% respectively; meanwhile, merchandise import soared by 103.0%. External merchandise trade surged by 93.4% year-on-year to MOP123.13 billion.

Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP103.39 billion, an increase of MOP55.45 billion from MOP47.94 billion a year earlier.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China (MOP1.52 billion), Hong Kong (MOP6.83 billion) and the USA (MOP509 million) in the first nine months of 2021 expanded by 25.1%, 27.2% and 22.1% respectively year-on-year. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP36.52 billion), the EU (MOP35.79 billion) and Japan (MOP9.78 billion) leapt by 102.7%, 132.7% and 67.7% respectively year-on-year.
