Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP1.30 billion and MOP11.42 billion in March, up by 26.7% and 175.2% respectively year-on-year.

Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP10.12 billion.

In the first quarter of 2021, merchandise export rose by 15.1% year-on-year, with domestic exports and re-exports increasing by 16.9% and 14.8%

respectively; meanwhile, merchandise import soared by 82.5%. External merchandise trade surged by 72.0% year-on-year to MOP33.20 billion.

Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP26.28 billion, an increase of MOP12.99 billion from MOP13.29 billion a year earlier.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China (MOP434 million), Hong Kong (MOP2.58 billion) and the USA (MOP130 million) in the first quarter of 2021 expanded by 30.6%, 21.3% and 20.9% respectively year-on-year. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP10.04 billion), the EU (MOP9.65 billion) and Switzerland (MOP2.77 billion) surged by 77.4%, 105.5% and 164.7% respectively year-on-year.
