Merchandise export and import amounted to MOP1.17 billion and MOP8.76 billion, up by 9.6% and 3.9% respectively year-on-year. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP7.59 billion.

In the first ten months of 2019, merchandise export rose by 4.3% year-on-year, of which re-exports increased by 6.0% but domestic exports decreased by 7.3%; meanwhile, merchandise import declined by 1.8%. External merchandise trade dropped by 1.1% year-on-year to MOP83.31 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP62.19 billion, a decrease of MOP1.80 billion from MOP63.99 billion a year earlier.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China declined by 23.2% year-on-year to MOP1.31 billion in the first ten months of 2019, while exports to Hong Kong (MOP6.81 billion) and the USA (MOP207 million) rose by 8.0% and 97.2% respectively. By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP24.86 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP4.59 billion) fell by 3.9% and 22.1% respectively year-on-year, whereas imports from the EU (MOP19.94 billion) increased by 8.3%.
