June 2016
Visitor arrivals by land and by air increased by 6.9% and 21.0% respectively year-on-year, while those arriving by sea decreased by 1.1%.
Visitors from Mainland China increased by 5.7% year-on-year, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 3.4%. Visitors from the Republic of Korea and Taiwan registered double-digit growth, while those from Hong Kong recorded a decrease. Long-haul visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom increased year-on-year.
Visitor arrivals increased by 4.9% year-on-year to 2,358,346. Overnight visitors rose by 13.9% whereas same-day visitors dropped by 3.3%. The average length of stay of visitors remained stable as in June 2015, at 1.2 days. Total visitor arrivals in the first half year grew marginally by 0.1%
year-on-year and the average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.2 day to 1.2 days.
