Population Change

There were 1,299 live births delivered, an increase of 126 quarter-to-quarter. The sex ratio at birth stood at 110.9. Mortality totalled 554, down by 35 quarter-to- quarter. In the first half of 2021, live births decreased by11.5% year-on-year whereas mortality increased by 5.2%.

New arrivals from mainland China with one-way permit went down by 14 quarter-to-quarter to 661, while individuals granted right of abode decreased by 7 to 117.

Non-resident workers totalled 172,261 at the end of the second quarter, down by 852 quarter-to-quarter.

Principal Indicators

Total population was 682,500, the same as in the previous quarter; female population accounted for 53.3% of the total.
