Population estimate of Macao was 644,900 at end-2016, down by 1,900 or 0.3% year-on-year. Males accounted for 47.4% and females constituted 52.6%.
For the whole year of 2016, live births and mortality increased by 1.3% and 12.3% respectively year-on-year; rate of natural increase was 7.5‰.
A net migration of -6,800 was recorded, attributable to a decrease in the number of non-resident workers living in Macao.
Population of the Coloane Island increased to 26,700, with its proportion rising by 0.7 percentage points to 4.1%.
