Visitor Arrivals
Analysed by place of residence, visitors from Mainland China increased by 13% year-on-year; Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rose by 19%, at 1,063,668. Visitors from the Republic of Korea and Japan increased by 20% and 2% respectively year-on-year, while those from Hong Kong and Taiwan decreased by 2% and 11%. Long-haul visitors from the United States and the United Kingdom registered year-on-year increase, while those from Australia and Canada saw decrease.
Visitor arrivals posted a new record for a single month, reaching 3,086,271 in the August Summer Holiday; same-day visitors accounted for 54% of the total. In the first eight months, visitor arrivals reached 21,123,512, up by 8% year-on-year.
The average length of stay of visitors was 1.0 day; overnight and same-day visitors stayed an average of 1.9 days and 0.2 day respectively.
