- Total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors amounted to MOP 11.70 billion, down by 4.5% year-on-year and up by 1.4% quarter-to-quarter. Total spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors dropped by 3.0% and 10.0% respectively year-on-year.
- Per-capita spending of visitors was MOP 1,601, down by 4.0% year-on-year and up by 3.4% quarter-to-quarter; per-capita spending of overnight visitors and same-day visitors decreased by 9.8% and 2.8% respectively year-on-year.
- Visitors spent mainly on shopping (43.4%), accommodation (26.8%) and food & beverage (20.9%).

Per-capita spending of Mainland visitors decreased by 8.0% year-on-year, with that of Guangdong visitors falling by 3.2%, and that of Fujian visitors dropping significantly by 31.1%. Per-capita spending of Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) dropped by 11.3% to MOP 2,244, with spending of those from Guangdong Province and Fujian Province falling by 3.0% and 31.7% respectively.

Per-capita spending of visitors from Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan increased by 12.1%, 10.1%, 9.8% and 12.7% respectively year-on- year, while that from Singapore decreased by 2.3%. Among the long-haul visitors, per-capita spending of visitors from the United Kingdom and the United States increased by 1.8% and 6.0% year-on-year, while that from Australia decreased by 5.1%.

Per-capita spending of overnight visitors declined by 9.8% year-on-year, with that of Mainland visitors falling by 15.3%. Per-capita spending of same- day visitors decreased by 2.8% year-on-year, with spending of those from Mainland China and Singapore dropping by 5.6% and 3.3% respectively.

Total spending of Mainland visitors decreased by 7.3% year-on-year to MOP 8.88 billion; spending of Guangdong visitors (MOP 3.29 billion) dropped by 2.0% while that of Fujian visitors (MOP 296 million) fell notably by 37.6%. Total spending of Mainland overnight visitors (MOP 6.97 billion, 78.5% of total) and same-day visitors (MOP 1.91 billion, 21.5% of total) declined by 5.6% and 12.9% respectively.

Same-day visitors from Mainland China and Singapore had relatively high per-capita spending, yet down by 5.6% and 3.3% respectively year-on-year.
Meanwhile, per-capita spending of same-day visitors from Hong Kong rose by 16.6%. Among the long-haul visitors, same-day visitors from Australia had the highest per-capita spending, up by 5.5%.
Shopping accounted for 71.9% of the per-capita spending of same-day visitors, at MOP 473; food & beverage made up 15.8%, at MOP 104.
-5.6 Analysed by countries and places, per-capita spending of overnight visitors from Mainland China and Singapore declined by 15.3% and 6.6%
respectively, while spending of those from Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan increased. Among the long-haul visitors, overnight visitors from the United Kingdom recorded relatively high growth in per-capita spending, up by 9.2%.

Visitors coming mainly for transit made up 18.3% of the total, and their per- capita spending was just MOP 309, down by 34.8% year-on-year.
Analysed by economic activity status of visitors, 20.6% of the visitors were legislators, senior officials and managers, down slightly by 0.4 percentage points year-on-year, followed by clerks at 13.2%, same as that in the second quarter of 2015.

Results of the Visitors' Comments Survey indicated that 90.8% of the visitor-users were satisfied with the services of travel agencies, up by 1.0 percentage point quarter-to-quarter; those who expressed satisfaction with the services and facilities of hotels rose marginally by 0.2 percentage points to 90.1%.
A relatively high percentage of visitors considered that public transport services should be improved, at 9.3%, down by 1.4 percentage points quarter-to-quarter.
Only 39.5% of the visitors commented that points of tourist attractions were adequate, down by 1.6 percentage points quarter-to-quarter; those who complimented about environmental hygiene and public facilities accounted for 78.4% and 67.0%, down by 4.8 and 4.3 percentage points respectively.
Analysed by visitors' main purpose of visit, visitors coming to Macao for shopping had the highest per-capita spending, at MOP 2,261, down by 3.1% year-on-year; yet, the corresponding proportion of visitors (8.1% of total) dropped marginally by 0.2 percentage points.
Per-capita spending of visitors coming for MICE events (MOP 2,144) and vacation (MOP 2,123) dropped by 10.0% and 12.0% respectively year-on- year. In terms of the proportion of visitors, only 1.0% came to Macao for MICE events, while 50.9% came for vacation, up by 0.5 and 7.1 percentage points respectively year-on-year.

Note:
Visitor Expenditure Survey and Visitors' Comments Survey adopt systematic sampling in selecting samples who are non-residents of Macao. At different departure points, enumerators collect spending data and comments on services and facilities from visitors during their stay in Macao.
Visitor who stays at least one night in a residential accommodation or casino in the place visited, or has accommodation arrangement with a hotel/guesthouse.
Overnight Visitor:
Classification of visitors:
Visitor who does not spend the night in any residential accommodation, hotel/guesthouse, or casino in the place visited, nor does he/she have accommodation arrangement with a hotel/guesthouse.
Spending of Visitors: The amount paid by visitors for the purchase of goods and services for own use or to give away, including expenses paid by the visitors or reimbursed by others such as relatives, friends or employers. Spending of visitors excludes gaming expenses, donations, expenses on purchase of assets and goods for resale.
Any person taking a trip to a main destination outside his/her usual environment, for less than a year, for any main purpose other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visited.
