ABSTRACT
Innovation plays an important role not only in business management but also in school education. A teacher is a critical influential factor for success of innovative activities in schools. On the other hand, innovation may lead to work stresses of teachers. This thesis draws on a qualitative case study of an elementary school in Chang-hua and proposes the impact of innovative activities on teachers
’ work stresses mediated by changes of teachers’ roles. These changes of roles include from shepherd to sitter, from an independent worker to a coordinated worker, from a course executant to a course developer, from a textbook user to a textbook investigator, from a leading role to a supporting role in teaching activities, from a market monopoly to a market competitor, from an evaluator to an evaluated party, and from a severe father to a kind mother. Finally, implications for theory and practice are
presented.
