EXTERNAL MERCHANDISE TRADE STATISTICS

SEPTEMBER/2012 No. 9

Total merchandise export for September 2012 amounted to MOP743 million, up by 40.2% year-on- year,

attributable to a 65.7% surge in re-exports (MOP573 million), but

domestic exports (MOP170 million) decreased by 7.7%. Total merchandise import amounted to MOP6.11 billion, up by 10.2% year-on- year. Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP5.36 billion for September 2012.

In the third quarter of 2012, total value of merchandise export (MOP2.20 billion) and merchandise import (MOP17.94 billion) increased by 33.0% and 7.6% respectively year-on-year, resulting in a trade deficit of MOP15.74 billion.

From January to September 2012, total value of merchandise export increased by 21.6% year-on-year to MOP6.14 billion, of which value of re-exports increased by 33.5%, but that of domestic exports decreased by 0.7%. Total value of merchandise import grew by 18.1% to MOP52.45 billion over the same period of 2011.

Merchandise trade deficit for the first nine months of 2012 amounted to MOP46.31 billion. From January to September 2012, total value of external merchandise trade reached MOP58.60 billion, up by 18.5%

compared with MOP49.46 billion a year earlier.

In September 2012, exports of Textiles & garments declined by 22.4% year-on-year, of which value of Knitted or crocheted garments and Textile fabrics decreased by 29.7% and 52.3% respectively.

Exports of Non-textiles increased by 53.8% year-on-year, of which value of Machines & apparatus, parts

& accessories thereof surged by 165.4%.

In the first nine months of 2012, exports of Textiles & garments fell by 22.7% year-on-year to MOP812 million; meanwhile, exports of Non-textiles grew by 33.2% to MOP5.33 billion, with that of Machines & apparatus, parts & accessories thereof and Articles for casino soaring by 163.6% and 40.6% respectively.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Hong Kong (MOP3.15 billion) and Mainland China (MOP984 million) in the first nine months of 2012 increased by 45.1% and 21.1% respectively year-on-year, while export to the USA (MOP381 million) and the EU (MOP244 million) decreased by 10.4% and 17.1%

respectively.

In September 2012, total merchandise import amounted to MOP6.11 billion, up by 10.2% year-on-year, with that of Fuels & lubricants rising by 16.8%.

In the first nine months of 2012, total value of merchandise import grew by 18.1% year-on-year to MOP52.45 billion, with that of Consumer goods (MOP32.16 billion) and Capital goods (MOP9.45 billion) rising by 19.1% and 19.4% respectively.

Analysed by imports of Consumer goods, in the first nine months of 2012, value of Motor cars &

motorcycles (MOP2.42 billion) grew by 44.5% year-on-year; Other durable consumer goods (MOP12.09 billion) expanded by 32.6%, with Watches (MOP3.93 billion) rising by 40.8%; Other semi-durable consumer goods (MOP7.00 billion) increased by 17.2%, with Footwear (MOP1.06 billion) rising by 24.1%.

Within the imports of Capital goods, in the first nine months of 2012, value of Mobile phones (MOP4.23 billion) and Slot machines, parts & accessories thereof (MOP539 million) increased by 43.0%

and 30.5% respectively year-on-year.

In the first nine months of 2012, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP16.98 billion), the EU (MOP12.30 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP6.15 billion) rose by 23.9%, 12.3% and 18.7% respectively year-on-year.
