The Impact of Self-Efficacy and Personality on the Frustration Tolerance among Vocational High School Students

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of this study was to explore how self-efficacy and personality traits effected on frustration tolerance of senior high school students. The formal sub-jects were 540 students selected from Taichung Second Senior High School in Taichung City, Tsao-Tun Commercial and Industrial Vocational Senior High School in Nantou County, Da Der Commercial and Technical Vocational School in Changhua County and Siluo Agricultural Industrial High School in Yunlin County by convenience sampling method. The questionnaires used in the study included the Personal Background Scale, Frustration Tolerance Scale, Self-efficacy Scale and Personality Traits Scale. Frequency distribution, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation were used for the data analysis. The main findings of the study on senior high school students were as follows: 1. There was a significant gender difference in adventure orientation and emotional experience. The average score of males was higher than the females. 2. There was a significant grade difference in adventure orientation and action ori-entation. The average score of the 1st grade was the highest, the 3rd grade was second and the 2nd grade was the lowest. 3. There was a significant parents’ socio-economical status difference in action ori-entation. The average score of students whose parents were high socio-economical status was higher than those were low.

4. There was a significant difference between strong and weak in action orientation. The average score of the strong students was the highest, the students who are moderate was second and the weak students was the lowest. 5. Agreeableness, neuroticism,

conscientiousness and extroversion could effectively predict senior high school students’ frustration tolerance. 6. Accomplishments and vicarious experiences could effectively predict senior high school students’ frustration tolerance.
