EXTERNAL MERCHANDISE TRADE STATISTICS

JULY/2012 No. 7

Total merchandise export for July 2012 amounted to MOP639 million, up by 10.8% year-on-year, of which value of re-exports (MOP423 million) and domestic exports (MOP216 million) increased by 15.6% and 2.3% respectively. Total merchandise import amounted to MOP5.91 billion, up by 7.8% year-on-year.

Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP5.27 billion for July 2012.

From January to July 2012, total value of merchandise export increased by 15.3% year-on-year to MOP4.58 billion, of which value of re-exports and domestic exports rose by 22.6% and 1.4% respectively. Total value of merchandise import grew by 22.3% to MOP40.61 billion over the same period of 2011.

Merchandise trade deficit for the first seven months of 2012 amounted to MOP36.02 billion. From January to July 2012, total value of external merchandise trade amounted to MOP45.19 billion, up by 21.5%

compared with MOP37.19 billion a year earlier.

In July 2012, exports of Textile & garment declined by 26.7% year-on-year, of which value of Knitted or crocheted garment and Textile fabrics decreased by 37.2% and 72.3% respectively. Exports of Non-textile increased by 22.0% year-on-year, of which value of Machines & apparatus, parts & accessories thereof surged by 98.9%.

In the first seven months of 2012, exports of Textile & garment fell by 22.8% year-on-year to MOP650 million; meanwhile, exports of Non-textile grew by 25.5% to MOP3.93 billion, with that of Machines &

apparatus, parts & accessories thereof and Tobacco & wine soaring by 121.6% and 29.4% respectively.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Hong Kong (MOP2.26 billion) and Mainland China (MOP741 million) in the first seven months of 2012 increased by 34.8% and 10.3% respectively year-on-year, but that to the USA (MOP302 million) and the EU (MOP210 million) decreased by 13.4% and 14.9% respectively.

In July 2012, total merchandise import amounted to MOP5.91 billion, up by 7.8% year-on-year, with that of Fuels & lubricants rising by 16.5%.

In the first seven months of 2012, total value of merchandise import grew by 22.3% year-on-year to MOP40.61 billion, with that of Consumer goods (MOP25.00 billion) and Capital goods (MOP7.41 billion) rising by 24.9% and 21.0% respectively year-on-year.

Analysed by imports of Consumer goods, in the first seven months of 2012, value of Food & beverages (MOP4.85 billion) grew by 2.5% year-on-year; Other durable consumer goods (MOP9.56 billion) expanded by 45.9%, with Watches (MOP3.06 billion) rising by 51.7%; Other semi-durable consumer goods (MOP5.39 billion) increased by 20.8%, with Handbags & wallets (MOP2.20 billion) rising by 28.6%.

Within the imports of Capital goods, in the first seven months of 2012, value of Mobile phones (MOP3.31 billion) and Computer hard disks (MOP586 million) increased by 50.8% and 53.8% respectively year-on-year.

In the first seven months of 2012, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP12.90 billion), the EU (MOP9.54 billion) and Hong Kong (MOP4.81 billion) rose by 25.9%, 15.0% and 28.8% respectively year-on- year.
