EXTERNAL MERCHANDISE TRADE STATISTICS

OCTOBER/2012 No. 10

Total merchandise export for October 2012 amounted to MOP637 million, up by 19.4% year-on-year, of which value of re-exports (MOP472 million) increased by 36.6%, but that of domestic exports (MOP165 million) decreased by 12.2%. Total merchandise import amounted to MOP5.92 billion, up by 9.5% year-on- year. Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP5.28 billion for October 2012.

From January to October 2012, total value of merchandise export increased by 21.5% year-on-year to MOP6.79 billion, of which value of re-exports increased by 33.8%, but that of domestic exports decreased by 1.5%. Total value of merchandise import grew by 16.8% to MOP58.18 billion over the same period of 2011.

Merchandise trade deficit for the first ten months of 2012 amounted to MOP51.39 billion. From January to October 2012, total value of external merchandise trade reached MOP64.97 billion, up by 17.3%

compared with MOP55.40 billion a year earlier.

In October 2012, exports of Textiles & garments declined by 11.8% year-on-year, of which value of Non-knitted or non-crocheted garments and Textile fabrics decreased by 14.1% and 44.6% respectively.

Exports of Non-textiles increased by 25.3% year-on-year, of which value of Machines & apparatus, parts

& accessories thereof surged by 232.4%.

In the first ten months of 2012, exports of Textiles & garments fell by 21.4% year-on-year to MOP892 million; meanwhile, exports of Non-textiles grew by 32.4% to MOP5.89 billion, with that of Machines & apparatus, parts & accessories thereof and Articles for casino soaring by 168.7% and 39.8% respectively.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Hong Kong (MOP3.45 billion) and Mainland China (MOP1.12 billion) in the first ten months of 2012 increased by 42.3% and 25.1% respectively year-on-year, while export to the USA (MOP421 million) and the EU (MOP261 million) decreased by 8.3% and 19.0%

respectively.

In October 2012, total merchandise import amounted to MOP5.92 billion, up by 9.5% year-on-year, with that of Capital goods rising by 55.1%.

In the first ten months of 2012, total value of merchandise import grew by 16.8% year-on-year to MOP58.18 billion, with that of Consumer goods (MOP35.61 billion) and Capital goods (MOP10.54 billion) rising by 16.2% and 22.3% respectively.

Analysed by imports of Consumer goods, in the first ten months of 2012, value of Motor cars &

motorcycles (MOP2.69 billion) grew by 40.0% year-on-year; Other durable consumer goods (MOP13.15 billion) expanded by 25.9%, with Watches (MOP4.27 billion) rising by 35.8%; Other semi-durable consumer goods (MOP7.86 billion) increased by 15.4%, with Footwear (MOP1.17 billion) rising by 17.8%.

Within the imports of Capital goods, in the first ten months of 2012, value of Mobile phones (MOP4.77 billion) and Computer hard disks (MOP681 million) increased by 49.3% and 28.9% respectively year-on-year.

In the first ten months of 2012, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP18.81 billion) and the EU (MOP13.72 billion) rose by 23.2% and 11.0% respectively year-on-year; the increase of merchandise import from Hong Kong (MOP6.78 billion) moderated to 14.2%.
