EXTERNAL MERCHANDISE TRADE STATISTICS

NOVEMBER/2012 No. 11

Total merchandise export for November 2012 amounted to MOP691 million, up by 6.1% year-on- year, of which value of re-exports (MOP514 million) increased by 18.9%, but that of domestic exports (MOP177 million) decreased by 19.1%. Total merchandise import amounted to MOP6.41 billion, up by 6.2% year-on-year. Merchandise trade deficit amounted to MOP5.72 billion for November 2012.

From January to November 2012, total value of merchandise export increased by 19.9% year-on-year to MOP7.48 billion, of which value of re-exports increased by 32.2%, but that of domestic exports decreased by 3.3%. Total value of merchandise import grew by 15.4% to MOP64.47 billion over the same period of 2011.

Merchandise trade deficit for the first eleven months of 2012 amounted to MOP56.99 billion. From January to November 2012, total value of external merchandise trade reached MOP71.95 billion, up by 15.9% compared with MOP62.09 billion a year earlier.

In November 2012, exports of Textiles & garments declined by 16.0% year-on-year, of which value of Knitted or crocheted garments and Textile fabrics decreased by 16.1% and 57.5% respectively.

Exports of Non-textiles increased by 10.1% year-on-year, of which value of Travel goods & handbags rose by 47.0%.

In the first eleven months of 2012, exports of Textiles & garments fell by 21.0% year-on-year to MOP975 million; meanwhile, exports of Non-textiles grew by 30.0% to MOP6.50 billion, with that of Machines & apparatus, parts & accessories thereof and Travel goods & handbags soaring by 146.9%

and 108.1% respectively.

Analysed by destination, merchandise export to Hong Kong (MOP3.78 billion) and Mainland China (MOP1.24 billion) in the first eleven months of 2012 increased by 37.4% and 25.1% respectively year-on- year, while export to the USA (MOP470 million) and the EU (MOP285 million) decreased by 6.5% and 18.2% respectively.

In November 2012, total merchandise import amounted to MOP6.41 billion, up by 6.2% year-on-year, with that of Capital goods rising by 30.0% but that of Raw materials & semi-manufactures dropping by 10.8%.

In the first eleven months of 2012, total value of merchandise import grew by 15.4% year-on-year to MOP64.47 billion, with that of Consumer goods (MOP39.44 billion) and Capital goods (MOP11.85 billion) rising by 14.2% and 23.0% respectively.

Analysed by imports of Consumer goods, in the first eleven months of 2012, value of Motor cars &

motorcycles (MOP2.99 billion) grew by 34.3% year-on-year; Other durable consumer goods (MOP14.53 billion) expanded by 22.9%, with Watches (MOP4.69 billion) rising by 33.4%; Other semi-durable consumer goods (MOP8.64 billion) increased by 12.1%, with Footwear (MOP1.29 billion) rising by 16.1%.

However, value of Tobacco (MOP436 million) fell notably by 40.4%.

Within the imports of Capital goods, in the first eleven months of 2012, value of Mobile phones (MOP5.48 billion) and Computer hard disks (MOP725 million) increased by 49.9% and 33.3% respectively year-on-year.

In the first eleven months of 2012, merchandise import from Mainland China (MOP20.94 billion) and the EU (MOP15.19 billion) rose by 22.6% and 9.1% respectively year-on-year; the increase of merchandise import from Hong Kong (MOP7.57 billion) moderated further to 12.1%.
