自我追蹤實踐。然而,自我追蹤實踐不只是跑者群體,展開相關的技術慣習,在醫 療、職場、遊戲化或更多的日常生活等亦有相關案例。未來的實證研究,可以從拼裝 體概念,進一步分析不同的群體與技術物如何共構著實踐過程,以及產生人與物的交 纏關係。我認為,可以從中挖掘更堅實的實證經驗,進行不同自我追蹤者與實踐經驗 比較,思索人與技術物的關係。上述的面向皆有待後續研究補充。

第三節、研究限制與未來建議

本研究有幾項研究限制。其一, 我是透過 PTT 管道徵詢受訪者,結果招募的受 訪者多數是大學或研究所的學歷、固定上網蒐集運動資訊、職業或學術背景相近(理 工科或業務員)等因素同質性很高的群體,他/她們也是持續關切自我追蹤數據的跑者。

這些受訪者基本上是持續性與慣性佩戴著智慧手錶與手環,惟有在洗澡或使用電腦時 摘下技術物,並且會不定時查看數據。本研究礙於受訪者群體類似,因此尚無法處理 細緻的日常生活實踐。例如朝九晚五的職業母親,或者上班族是如何使用自我追蹤實 踐,技術物又如何限制或影響其實踐過程,如何從中數據建構身體知識。再者,初階 的自我追蹤者是否正如心慈的經驗,因為智慧手環損壞或當機,她改以智慧手機追蹤 自我與身體活動。基於好奇使然購買智慧手錶或手環的初階者,會否因為見異思遷,

或沒有強烈的使用動機,無法形成自我追蹤的慣習,易於棄用或改用其他技術裝置。

這些都是有待後續研究補充,進一步考慮不同群體的自我追蹤經驗。

其次是方法與資料取得的限制。在研究發現中,我已經說明自我追蹤嵌入日常 生活實踐之中,我是透過訪談方式,要求受訪者回憶與敘述其實踐方式、技術物對他/

她們的身體活動限制,或者要求受訪者現場示範使用策略與行動方式。不過這種方式 無法比照辦理,因為礙於一些受訪者的敘事能力,或者沒有留意幽微的日常使用經驗。

例如當我詢問受訪者:為何一直佩戴著手錶,在日常生活手錶的作用為何?一般上受 訪者的回饋是:摘下和再戴上手錶很麻煩、不用準備另一隻手錶。我認為可能有更進 一步的考量因素,有待進一步深入其理所當然的日常實踐,解讀其使用意涵。這個情 況導致我未必能從訪談或現場觀察之中,未能詳盡蒐集與描述每個跑者、身體與技術 物之間的關係。未來的相關研究,可以進一步考慮使用民族誌田野方式,長時間浸淫 在自我追蹤者熟悉的日常生活空間,從中探索各種行動方式。藉由民族誌的田野資料 與訪談揉合出的討論,研究者可以挖掘更深層以及更加幽微的人與物之間的關係,豐 富我們對於自我追蹤實踐的認識,有待後續研究補充。

最後,在拼裝體的討論層次上,使用者與技術物,身體與數據是暫時成型的跑 者拼裝體狀態。從研究發現可以看到,受訪者只有在面對技術物損壞、故障或當機等 物質性限制之下,可能會出現拆解、組合與再拼裝的過程。換言之,在一般的情況之 下,跑者拼裝體是有個暫時穩定的階段,惟有在無法預期的技術物損壞或故障,產生 另一組的拼裝體型態。我認為,有必要從個別的人與物脈絡之下,理解使用者採取的 修復技術物策略、改用其他裝置的過程,棄用或退用的原因與經驗,以及損壞的物質 性限制,也能成為一個未來研究方向。從理論層次,這些修復、改用或棄用的樣態,

產生的拼裝體關係,有許多討論空間。例如使用者棄用或退用自我追蹤的技術物之後,

其數據或數字的觀念是否仍鑲嵌於其日常實踐,人與物的關係和想像產生如何的變化。

從使用者棄用、改用與拒用自我追蹤實踐,以及技術物的物質性限制等其他面向,尚 值得未來繼續發展者,挖掘、分析與反思自我追蹤實踐,比較不同群體使用經驗,思 索人與物之間的關係。
