Weber的著作數量繁多，大致可簡要地分為四類：
一、方法論方面的論著。這些著作主要涉及人文科學的精神、對 象與方法。其中較為重要的有《羅夏與克尼斯》(Roscher and Knies) 與《社會科學方法論》（The methodology of the social sciences）。
二、純歷史著作。Weber 早期的興趣是在經濟史與法律方面，如
《古羅馬農業史》（Roman agrarian history）（教授資格論文）、《普 通經濟史》（General economy history）、《中世紀商業貿易史》（On the history of medieval trading companies）（博士論文）等。
三、《經濟與社會》（Economy and society）。這是一本普通社 會學專著。包含有：一般社會學、法律社會學、支配社會學、音樂社 會學、政治社會學、宗教社會學。這本鉅著是在 Weber 死後才編纂
完成。
四、《宗教社會學論文集》（Collected essays of the sociology of religion）。除了《經濟與社會》一書中，有一部份宗教社會學方面的 論述外，Weber 最有系統的宗教社會學的論著就是《宗教社會學論文 集》。此一文集共包含了三卷：
第一卷：
＜作者導言＞（Author’s introduction ）
＜基督新教倫理與資本主義精神＞（The protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism）
＜基督新教諸教派與資本主義精神＞（The protestant sects and the spirit of capitalism）
＜世界諸宗教之經濟倫理＞（The economic ethic of the world religions），包括了導論（Introduction）、儒教與道教（The religion of China）、中間考察--宗教拒世的階段與方向（Religious rejections of the world and their directions）
第二卷：
＜世界諸宗教之經濟倫理（續）＞：印度教與佛教（The religion of India）
第三卷：
＜世界諸宗教之經濟倫理（續）＞古猶太教（Ancient Judaism）
本研究是以 Weber 的「合理性」概念為核心，所參照的資料以 和「合理性」有直接相關的文獻為主，其他著作則在適當的概念闡釋 時，隨時補充說明。主要參考的文獻簡述如下：
一、《經濟與社會》中，Weber 論社會學的基本概念、對行動的 類型學區分、階級與政黨、法律社會學、權威支配類型、教育的理性 化發展，為本研究主要參考的資料之一。
二、《宗教社會學論文集》中的＜作者導言＞、＜基督新教倫理 與資本主義精神＞、＜世界諸宗教之經濟倫理：導論＞及＜中間考察
＞是本研究探討的重要核心，因為它展現了 Weber 學說中最重要的
「合理性」與「理性化」概念。
三、＜學術作為志業＞（Science as a vocation）、＜政治作為志 業＞（Politics as a vocation）兩篇演講詞充份表現了 Weber 對時代命 運的關懷與政治關懷，其中尤以價值多神論、良心倫理與責任倫理，
及 Weber 企圖結合法理型統治與克力斯瑪的公投民主制等概念最為 重要。
四、《社會科學方法論》（The methodology of the social sciences）
一書中，Weber 充分闡釋了價值中立的觀點，為本研究探究的重點之 一。
Weber的主要著作均已譯成英文。因語文能力所限，本研究主要 參閱 Weber 的英譯本著作如下：
