自《新聞學研究》創刊以來，台灣社會經過許多重要的變遷，從台灣在地政治 的變遷、兩岸政治的變遷、全球經濟和文化的跨界流動、到科技環境的更新。這些 社會變遷都深深影響了傳播產業的各個面向，自微觀的面向，如：新聞工作的常規、
勞動過程與工作者自我認同，至鉅觀的面向，如：台灣傳播產業在兩岸間的交流與 競爭、傳播產業的全球經濟競爭與文化角力等。在社會變遷這個子題當中，本刊聚 焦於產業，以傳播產業為關鍵字收錄論文，討論社會變遷如何形塑當代傳播產業的 面貌。
在台灣在地政治和兩岸政治變遷方面，本刊收錄了趙雅麗在1998 年（57 期）
發表的〈政治主導下兩岸電視文化交流的迷思〉，描繪台灣自1987 開放兩岸交流 以來，至90 年代末期，兩岸傳播產業的互動中政治和文化的限制，和經濟模式的競 爭與消長。接著，本刊收錄劉昌德於2008 年（95 期）發表的〈大媒體，小記者：
報禁解除後的新聞媒體勞動條件與工作者組織〉，討論報禁自90 年代末期解除以來 二十年間，資本漸趨集中，而工會運動漸趨停滯之下，新聞工作的勞動過程態樣。
在全球經濟和文化流動方面，本刊收錄了王泰俐在2004 年（81 期）發表的〈電 視新聞節目感官主義之初探研究〉，討論全球小報文化和資訊娛樂化的傾向，如何 滲透至台灣的新聞產製之中。接著，本刊也收錄魏玓在2006 年（89 期）發表的〈合 製文化：反思全球化下的國際電影合製〉，討論經濟全球化和新自由主義，如何帶 來了跨國傳播產業合製的壓力，而當中的經濟競爭和文化辯論又是如何。
在科技環境變遷方面，本刊收錄了馮建三在1994 年（49 期）發表的〈從報業 自動化與勞資關係反省傳播教育〉，討論台灣自80 年代初期使用勘使採用電腦排版 以來十多年間，勞動過程與勞資關係的態樣，並與英語系國家的報業自動化比較。
此外，本刊也收錄了劉蕙苓在2014 年（121 期）所發表的〈匯流下的變貌：網路素 材使用對電視新聞常規的影響〉，討論網路科技如何與新聞組織中的常規互動，而 這些新聞工作的新常規，又如何為新聞倫理與新聞專業帶來挑戰。我們用這篇論文 作為社會變遷子題的小結，刻劃二十一世紀科技環境為傳播工作帶來的新樣貌，也 為我們描繪出現下台灣傳播產業的衝擊與威脅。
